The Empire of silence was a specially constructed "black box" pavillion at Swiss Expo 02. The theme was the importance of communication and expression.
Julian was commissioned not only to score the music but to provide a complete soundscape environment across the entire experience.
To achieve a unique depiction of the battle of freedom (The rebels) against the forces of silence (The empire) hundreds of audio effects were created from the ground up.
Sophisticated show control systems were designed and installed to provide total surround sound throughout the audiences' journey. The audio was synchronized to film, lighting, moving scenery, special fx, automated machines the visitors and live actors.
The final sound balance was completed on site, in a full show setting, with final editing and multitrack mixing taking into account the environment and visitor flow.
