Olympics – Glass Orchestra

Part of the original creative brief for the opening ceremony called for a glass orchestra. To enable the creation of a unique and original soundtrack for this section Julian created a glass orchestra from a total of 44 handmade Rosenthal crystal glasses. These were recorded individually and encoded into Apple’s Logic software to create an exclusive playable Glass Orchestra tool.

During the evolution of the opening ceremony the appearance of a visual glass orchestra was no longer required. However the sounds created for this section can be heard below (Glass Orchestra) and Julian used this resource to create his percussive and natural sound arrangement for the DNA section of the Nikos Kypourgos composition “Double Helix”
